Burping, Burping Everywhere

Burping, Burping Everywhere

So I got asked yesterday if I was burping to fit in. I never in my life thought I’d be asked a question like that. Which I guess can kinda be expected seeing how I’m the only woman on my team, but at the same time give me a damn break. I’m not going to sit here and burp to try and fit in. I just try and be myself each and every day.

Now I’m wondering how often stuff like this is going to come up. I sure as hell can’t help how my body reacts to what I eat. I’m still on one hell of a learning curve when it comes to learning how to live with this and deal with it. The symptoms for fructose intolerance are the following:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Gas
  • Bloating
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Nausea

Gas is definitely one of the easier symptoms to deal with than all of the others. And I have definitely been dealing with all of the others on and off for years. Hell, I remember burping in fourth grade and getting told by my teacher when I burped that “That isn’t lady like.” First of all, fuck being that kind of lady. And second of all I probably had a fructose intolerance back then. The reason why I’m pretty sure it’s been going on for that long is because it was around then that I had to be taken to the ER for constipation. That comment is mostly irritating because I hate gender roles/stereotypes like that. They drive me nuts.

If anyone thinks of a witty come back for situations like this could you please let me know? I suck at them and tend to think of them hours after the conversation happens.

PS, if you don’t like the swearing in my blog, don’t read it.

  1. Here is a comeback idea: (after a burp and being told off for it) “Hey, if you don’t like the tone of conversation I am setting, don’t hesitate and give me an interesting topic we can actually talk about.”
In my opinion the whole burping scare makes for a great conversation by itself – I have collected some ideas on my blog:
