Time for Some Prednisone

Prednisone tends to cause me to have bad mood swings and roid rage. I can totally relate to this meme because of it.

Over the last week I haven’t been feeling so well. I was really hoping that it was just my period messing with my IBD like it does sometimes. I was hoping that everything would settle down over the weekend. But that wasn’t the case.

After a week of rectal pain, left side abdominal pain and 2-6 BMs a day and passing a blood clot on Sunday I decided to call my GI. I finally resided to the fact that I’m going into a flare. No matter how much I wanted to deny that fact my body would not allow it.

So I called my GI on yesterday and explained what all is going on. They decided to put me on 40mg of prednisone and I will be tapering off of it for the next sixteen days(40mg for four days, 30mg for the next four days, ect). Really hoping that this gives my immune system the kick it needs to calm down. It worked for me last year when I was having a flare so fingers crossed that things go well again.

After the 16 days are up I’m supposed to call my GI and let them know how things are. If things don’t work I’m not sure what the next step is. The best thing I can do for myself right now is just take things one day at a time.

Here’s to hoping that I can get some sleep this week! Had to start the prednisone yesterday around 6:30pm and now I have to take it at the same time everyday. I apologize in advance if I’m a bit cranky(I like my sleep).
