I have been riding motorcycles for about four years now. I started out as a passenger on my fiance’s motorcycle and eventually got my own. I have not found that riding upsets my indeterminate colitis. Now, I definitely don’t go riding while I’m flaring or not really feeling all that well. I don’t recommend that at all! Not something that you really want to have to worry about when you’re on a motorcycle!
If you are worried about riding while having IBD there are a few things that you can do to try and be ready for any situation. You could carry an emergency kit with you just in case something happens and you’re not around a toilet. Here are a few things I keep in my emergency kit:
- Extra underwear
- Wet wipes
- Extra pants
- Plastic Bags
I also pretty much always have Imodium on me but it’s not normally something I take with me while riding. Like I said, I don’t normally ride my motorcycle when I’m not feeling well. I don’t have to depend on it to take me to work or anything, fortunately. I ride for fun when I can.
I hope everyone has a good week! Safe travels!
**Do you ride motorcycles? What kind of bike do you have?
Sneaky Sneaky. I see the “depends” pun you made there 🙂
I didn’t even realize I did that! Lol
For the past few months I have been putting some serious research and planning into buying another motorcycle. Getting on 2 wheels again has been a dream of mine for quite some time now.
Apart from all the issues I have regarding storage of the bike and security etc; I had 98% made my mind up that I was going ahead with the purchase.
This morning it occurred to me that I had been putting so much thought into the actual preparation of finance, building a garage to store the bike, theft deterrents etc; I had overlooked the one major problem which would put a halt to the whole idea.
My I.B.S.
I can go for some time without a worry and then without any warning the problem can occur, not wishing to be too graphic. It’s something I have absolutely no control over.
Sadly, this has made me think differently about fulfilling my ambition.
I’m not feeling too sorry for myself though. I realise there will be some people in a far worse situation who also would love to fulfil their ambitions but some disability will be getting in the way.
Being fully clad in motorcycle gear and the need to locate a public convenience urgently doesn’t sound like fun.
Maybe need to rethink….?
I am sorry to hear that Mark! It can be rough to find a public restroom when out on a bike. One time when I was riding my dirt bike I actually had to stop and use a log as a toilet because I really had to go. And lately every time I want to ride I get so much anxiety I worry that I’m going to have to go while on the bike! I have found dual sport riding in the woods works better for me because I can just go to the bathroom in the woods if needed. Not ideal but having wet wipes helps a lot!
