Traveling with Humira is a lot easier than I ever thought it was going to be. When I first had to fly with it I was pretty paranoid. I made sure to have a note from my doctor and everything. I also got a nifty little cooler back from Humira. It works well enough for me to fly with.
I’ve flown with my Humira several times and even internationally. I always take it as part of my carry on when I’m flying. You never want to put it in your checked baggage. It gets way too cold for Humira down there.
When I fly I treat the cooler as it’s own thing and don’t count it towards my carryon limit. I’ve only had problems with it once and I told the gate attendant that it was medication and she let it go.
When you go through the TSA check point be sure to let them know that you have an ice pack with you. Most of the time they want to see inside of the cooler and normally ask if the ice pack is frozen. If you forget to tell them this they may end up checking your Humira bag for bombs. Which totally happened to me once. Got it swabbed down and tested because I forgot to tell them that I had an ice pack with me. Wasn’t too big of a deal but I thought it was hilarious.
If you want to get a cooler from Humira check out the information here. It’s part of the Humira complete program that also provides sharps containers that you can mail back to them for disposal.
All in all, Humira is not as complicated as I thought it was going to be to travel with.
Until next time!
