2021 marks five years doing fundraisers with the Gaming4Guts crew. It’s hard to believe that it’s been that long! I joined in 2017 after participating in the Extra Life charity streaming event raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network. I had wanted to do the same type of streaming event for Inflammatory Bowel Disease. After asking around on Twitter my friend Sarah let me know that Rob from Crohn’s Gamer did an event like this and that I should check it out.
What I really love about charity streams is that I can do them from the comfort of my own home. I’ve done several 24 hour streams in the past but it turns out that if I am up for around 24 hours that my stomach gets pretty upset very early in the morning while streaming and it makes things a little difficult. Now I just spend our charity event streaming for 10+ hours every day. This works out much better for me in the long run! I also don’t have to worry about how tired I am because anytime I need to take a break from streaming I can.
The first event I didn’t really get terribly involved with. I did the fundraiser on my own without talking to anyone from the G4G crew, but hey! I made my fundraiser goal which was AWESOME! 2018 I got more involved with the community on Discord and was a lot more involved with that year’s fundraiser. I had a great time getting to know everyone and raising money for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.
In 2019 I let the admins for G4G know that if they needed any help with the fundraiser to please let me know if there was anything I could do! Fast forward to 2021 and now I am a co-organizer for the event and a moderator in the Discord channel. We were on a podcast last year. You can listen to that episode here. This year we also have a couple of other projects brewing that I hope we can share soon! Be sure to follow us on our social media for updates!
